It always amazes me how humans react to light - if a place is dark, people assume it is cold and uninviting, however if there is light, then it is assumed to be warm and inviting. Although there is always the too light extreme (aka Gailo's kitchen) which is what we commonly call psychiatric ward light!.
I found the glow and shadow of my lamp warm and inviting last night, especially as we are having a bitterly cold winter.
